About the Power House

Located in the heart of Victoria's Silo Art Trail, Hopetoun's Power House Arts Studio offers a unique studio and exhibition space combined with modern accommodation.

Originally opened in 1913 as Hopetoun’s power supply, the Power House’s new life as an art studio provides artists with a versatile space in Victoria’s north-west.

The visiting artist will be able to relax and find plenty of inspiration, be it from the silo art in many neighbouring towns or the easy-going town on the shores of Lake Lascelles.

When not in use as a studio retreat, gallery or workshop venue, the accommodation can provide a welcome retreat to the weary traveller.

Mission Statement

The Power House Arts Studio in Hopetoun exists to enrich and strengthen the local community by providing a welcoming, accessible and creative space for arts, cultural activities, learning and collaboration and social connection.

Owned by Yarriambiack Shire Council and supported operationally by Hopetoun & District Neighbourhood House, the studio is guided by the dedication of volunteer-led Management and Programming Committees. Together, these groups work cooperatively to ensure the facility operates effectively, remains well maintained, and offers a diverse and meaningful range of activities.

The volunteer Programming Committee provides a curated range of workshops, events and activities that support community participation and artistic development. Beyond the scheduled program, the facility is available for hire for purposes including community activities, private events, exhibitions and corporate workshops. Artists and facilitators may also directly book the studio to deliver their own workshops, enabling a wide range of creative opportunities and encouraging external practitioners to share their skills with the local community.

The adjoining accommodation supports the Hopetoun Artist in Residence Experience (HARE) and, when not being used for artist residency, the accommodation is available for hire by other users. This facility adds to the local experience and supports tourism.

By working together with respect, openness and community spirit, the Power House Arts Studio strives to be a vibrant hub that adds lasting value to the region and supports the wellbeing, creativity and connectedness of the people it serves.
